Since we have been staying at home lately (we did sneak out to see the new Harry Potter yesterday woo!) I’ve been doing a lot of cleaning, moving things around, tidying, etc. I have this love for white plates, especially ones with unusual edging. I seem to have acquired quite the collection without even realizing it. All purchases second-hand of course.
There has also been a lot of reading going on. Howl’s Moving Castle which I bought for the drive to SC. My 13 yr old finished it during day one of the drive, and then once we got home I read it in about two nights. It is really good and how now prompted a hunt for more of her books. Material Obsession has me very inspired to try to branch out a bit more with quilts, we shall see. This Is For You is of course just beautiful, Tom bought it for me a few weeks ago…and Wonderland another gift from Tom. It follows the story of MaryAnn and makes a fun edition to our Alice books.
It has been raining all day long, but stopped a few hours ago so I went out and weeded all the flower beds, and garden. The garden barely needed any weeding and I feel like I owe that to Katie’s parent’s garden. They have a huge garden which they mulch with grass clippings, and I just never thought about doing that. I did it a few weeks ago and the garden hasn’t needed much weeding since. Our rainbow chard on the other hand is gone. Something came and ate every last bit of it. We had about 9 bunches growing, and this is what they all look like now.
We have harvested green beans and one cucumber so far. We were late in planting our seeds, so I am not expecting too much greatness, but it is still fun no matter what we get.
B’s foot is healing nicely. We had a check up at the doctors today, but it will be ten more days before the stitches come out. He can however now begin to walk using his heel, and that is such a relief. |

Outside my house yesterday! This sailboat is out there a lot, but it looked so pretty yesterday with the blue sky and clouds.
Brock's dad's 50th birthday was on Tuesday and today the family is going out to dinner to celebrate. It should be fun. We are going to Red Lobster, which is eh, but Wesley will be really excited. He LOVES Red Lobster. He's a big fan of seafood. |

Berry, peeking around the corner to say hi!
She gave me quite a scare today! I noticed she was acting strange, almost panicked, so I took a closer look and saw she had a large seed stuck on one of her teeth and half sticking out of her mouth! She couldn't get it off and couldn't eat or drink with it there. I tried to get at it, but she's pretty skittish, and even when I could touch it, it wouldn't budge. I got her out of her cage and held her tight, while Brock put on some gloves and tried to get the seed. She was so scared, the poor thing, she had no idea what was going on. :( We ended up getting it though! I gave her a carrot and she gobbled it up and then finally relaxed and took a nap. I was so scared! We were thinking we would have to take her to the vet. I'm so glad she's ok now!

a co-worker of mine keeps a blog called zombie lapdance. some of his posts are about the crazy shit he eats from asian and indian markets and taco stands around town. here is a post about one special treat he brought to work and shared with me.
i'm reposting it here for ease of use:
This issue of Food Frakker, we're going to have something a little different. I managed to catch on digital media the encounter between my co-worker Jeremiah, and a Korean snack treat of the sort that I would ordinarily only inflict on myself.
So allow me to present the sequential graphic narrative of Jeremiah and the Mixed Bean Crackers.

his blog is pretty funny most of the time. i recommend checking it out. |

Brock was just reminded to tell me a story about Wesley. Apparently when they were at the bank the other day, Wesley announced that he wanted to be a cobbler when he grows up. Brock said, "A cobbler..?" and Wesley said, "Yeah, you know.. fixing shoes!" Ha! The teller said, "I have a few broken shoes, I can be your first customer!" Where did he even learn that word? He's always saying things like this and when you ask him where he learned it he just shrugs and says, "I don't know." |

We had my sister's boys for the night and a day. Fun and exhausting!
They enjoyed playing some video games and we also took them to the beach and a couple playgrounds! I didn't have my camera with me for those trips though. :(
The many faces of my cousin Levi, aka The Evil One. ;)
It was quite a time, having them here! It's funny how quiet and calm everything seems after they've been here for a while and then they go, haha. Wesley was glad to have some alone time again and we enjoyed some family time watching Harry Potter before bed. We're trying to get Wes caught up on all the Harry Potter movies so we can go see the new one sometime next week. Tonight we'll be watching Prisoner of Azkaban, which was my favorite book of the series! |

Thank you all so much for all the well wishes for B and his little foot. He is doing really great and being quite the trooper considering being confined to sitting/laying down. I thought I should post something a little more cheerful :)
Some party ghosts-in paper and I am trying to make a couple of hand puppets. On Tom’s birthday when we were at the Christmas Museum we spotted these amazing puppets, and I thought I would try and make a few. Maybe you can tell but two of them will be Pinocchio! They are just for fun/gifts, and will probably take me awhile still to finish because I have some deadline projects coming up…but I thought I would share them so far.

This is a short video of Brooks, me, and some Chimney Swifts from yesterday evening. We released (5 of 8) Chimney Swifts, some of which fell down Brooks's chimney last month-plus a few others that were brought to the Wings of Hope Wildlife Rehab this past month.

We thought all our excitement was over now that we are back from our trip, but we were wrong. After Tom got home last night he and I were sitting at the table about to drink coffee and catch up. B was finishing watching a movie in the other room, when we heard a glass break. He had been drinking water from one of those tall vintage glasses and set it down on the floor. He had forgotten about it, and stood up standing/breaking the glass. Tom got into the room first and whisked him off the ground.
I thought maybe he had a small cut from the glass, so I was so startled to see all the blood running down his leg. Sorry, kind of graphic I know-but he says he wants to remember the whole story for when he is older. We saw the big cut across his heel and knew it would need stitches. Tom grabbed a beach towel and we ran to the car to get him to the ER.
B was so amazing and brave. He cried, but not nearly as much as I imagined he would. Normally he hates any little cuts he gets and hates to even hear the word “blood”.
They said of course he needed stitches and they thought he would need to be held down while they numbed it. Which seriously is such an awful procedure! The whole needle going into an open wound!? The Doctor had him count to 60 while she did it which was the most heartbreaking thing ever. These are the times when any parent would so gladly take all the pain for their kid. :(
He got the stitches and now has to stay off his foot for the next 4 days until we go in for a wound check. I told B it was a good thing we just got home from vacation, so laying around sounds like a good thing. We are planning lots of movies in bed (laptops are good for that), extra reading time, Uno, and anything else we can come up with for our little bedridden boy.
Oh and if your not squeamish you can see a photo of his stitches here. He asked me to take a photo this morning when we checked it, so he could see it later. He doesn’t want to look at it yet :)
ETA-I took down the photo of the stitches because someone told me it made them throw up + faint. I don’t want to be making anyone sick of course, but that it why the link will not work now.
